4th trip of 2026
Pickwick Dam TVA
campground Pickwick, TN
June 10 - 14
(Paris Landing State Park Buchanon, TN
(Defeated Creek COE Campground Carthage, TN)
So far so good on the Brinkley, Everything works as it should and tows straight as an arrow.
It would not be "CAMPING" if something did not break or required special attention.
The truck decided to have a coolant leak. Added coolant and observed the situation to see if it
was serious. Drove it for 2 days without loosing a drop, will investigate further once we get home.
The campground was practically vacant upon our arrival. Set up camp and decided it was too hot
to attempt anything but to walk Bonnie and have early dinner and cocktails.
The only bad thing about this campground, is it located across the river from a Paper Mill (PCA) which makes cardboard containers
and the smell has something has something to be desired.
Thursday we decided to go over the bridge and check out Pickwick State Park.
It has a very nice golf course, rental cabins, big lodge/restaurant, swim beach etc.
Unfortunately, the flood has closed the campground area and does not expect to reopen until possibly next year.
Just to the south is the tri-state border Tennessee/Alabama/Mississippi.
Since Heidi has never been to Mississippi, we ventured down there to check that box off.
Friday was a rain day, so we decided to travel to SHILOH National Park
If you have any interest about the civil war, this is the place to come to.
There were over 100,000 soldiers involved here. 24,000 were killed or missing.
The 2 day battle (April 6-7) included General Grants arrival at Pittsburg Landing and then the Shiloh Meeting house
Saturday was a lazy day and Heidi spent some time patronizing the local thrift shop.
The dam and locks were built in the 1930s as many other TVA facilities. It has been in continuous operation every since.
We did see a few barges pass through during our stay. 1 of the original turbines is on display at the site.
We patronized Dave's Burger Barn. We enjoyed jumbo BBQ pork sandwich, and his take on a double cheeseburger.
Both included uniquely seasoned fries and a soda for a total cost of $18. That was a really cool experience
It was just to hot to build up an appetite although there were other eateries we would have liked to try.
